I look everywhere for inspiration and ideas, and although most of the good stuff I get is from listening to live concerts and talking to my musician friends, the internet is also full of magic as well.

These are some sites I have found along the way that have wonderful information in them re. extended techniques

Philarmonia Orchestra - Too much to say about this site, it’s great, check it out for yourself !

MATS MÖLLER Flute - Wonderful examples of extended techniques with audio and images to go with

Clarinet Multiphonics - Multiphonics chart and ‘generator’

Extended Techniques For Vibraphones (Pretty cool bowed harmonic effect I didn’t know about)

The atmosphere is amazing, the house is gorgeous, the energy is intense and good. I’ve been getting lots of work done on my new piece and couldn’t have asked for a better scenario. Working on a new score for orchestra, a commission by Fundação OSESP, a piece that pays homage to the legendary Vinícius de Moraes. (Orquestra Sinfônica de São Paulo) The piece will be premiered in October 2013 and will be the orchestra’s opening piece during their European tour season.

Saravá is an homage to the poet, composer, songwriter, lyricist and diplomat Vinícius de Moraes, in light of the celebration of his 100th anniversary. Vinícius was an incredible man in many ways. He was a pioneer, an innovator, a bohemian, a diplomat… He wrote the lyrics to the famous “Girl From Ipanema” song and helped shape at least 2 huge musical movements in Brazil such as the bossa nova and the afro sambas. The list of Vinícius doing’s is endless, and there are many musical possibilities to go with ! As usual, I invite you to check out the progress as we go along...

I am very excited to be writing music for such wonderful *guitar players and I would like to keep anyone who is interested, in the loop of what’s happening !

Ultimately, these great folks are helping me create a very unique suite for the guitar - since it will be all based on whatever they want. I’ve been slowly gathering some information about them and what they want - and it’s been very interesting! Already I know that Connie wants a piece that celebrates motherhood, Jose Antonio Escobar is into playing something moody and minor; Marek said he’s a composer himself so he’s probably be more into whatever it is that someone else comes up on his behalf; while Cecilio wrote that he loves all kinds of styles, including rock an roll… Mmm I will provably follow up on that :) Gaëlle demonstrated a strong interest in exploring extended techniques including adding some vocal lines as well, which is right up my alley, and finally, Alieksey will be playing something very rhythmic and fiery, something Brazilian perhaps?

It will be way too much fun !

Over the next few months I will be posting our progress as we move along, and whoever is interested in more information, please consider subscribing to the website.

Posts will include pictures, videos, emails and some score updates.

Thanks a lot !

Best,

Clarice
